Russian Scientists Kept Dog’s Severed Head Alive

June 26, 2008 · 2 Comments

No, I didn’t just read this off of CNN’s website — but only because the story broke in the 1920s!

Apparently a Russian scientist managed to keep a dog’s severed head alive for a period of time by hooking it up to a crude heart/lung machine. And he filmed it. Film at this link. I didn’t watch it. Just the still frame of this dog’s head attached to the machine has made me almost vomit the Healthy Choice soup I just had for lunch.

So YOU watch it, and tell me what you think. In one scene, supposedly the dog is fed a piece of cheese and it comes out the other end of a tube, plopping on the table.

Oh, I’m soooo sick right now.

Getting a real kick out of this post:

Orwell’s 1984 As Sexy 50’s Pulp Fiction

June 26, 2008 · 1 Comment

Jason Lundberg’s blog shows off the front and back covers of a 1954 paperback edition of George Orwell’s “1984.” I suppose, like a lot of the other paperback back then, there was an effort to “sex up” the cover art. The result is something that looks a little more like a quaint soft-core porn novel than one of the Classics.

Of course, the hot babe wears the “Anti-Sex League” button.

Star Wars

The long-awaited Arrested Development movie was confirmed by Jason Bateman on MSNBC’s Countdown Tuesday night.

Plugging his new movie Hancock, Bateman confided to Keith Olbermann that a film adaptation of the cult TV comedy is “in the works.” The Countdown segment also featured a surprise appearance from Bateman’s “Arrested” co-star David Cross.

Watch the segment here on Huffington Post.

Then do the Chicken Dance:

Spanx Power Panties

June 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Spanx produces a line of products for women designed to “shape” their bodies: basically, by holding in, obscuring, covering, restraining, pulling, and generally keeping out of sight fat, cellulite, jigglies, etc.

For example, there are “Power Panties,” billed on the site as “the world’s first performance underwear.” The Power Panty starts at around one’s navel and goes down to halfway down one’s thigh. They look like sheer bicycle shorts.

I don’t know, I think the sight of a woman wearing one of those things is roughly equal to, in attractiveness terms, those beige nylon socks that are not long enough to be stockings. You know what I’m talking about, those socks women wear with business shoes, that get all nice and sweaty and leave pale ridged rings of moisture around their shins.

Certainly, the Power Panty might yield a momentary boost in attractiveness as worn under other garments. But to actually spot a lady sporting it would be a fundamental destruction of an illusion that might be too much to take. Well-worn Playtex and some jigglies might be sexier.

At least the Victorians had the right idea:
